The air and sea show is suppose to be making its way to South Florida. I just dont feel it needs to place apart of news segments everyday leading up to the event. Its bad enough they have commericals advertising the event, but know they are making it apart of a news broadcast often. There are alot of things that are happening around the state of Florida that needs coverage.

I understand they are trying to break up hard news coverage, but it needs to be done once or twice not throughout each news broadcast.

Media people need to reconsider the topics they cover. I think it would bring more to the news segment if they kept it a bit professional.

I child was injured as he was riding his bike from school on Palmetto in Boca Raton. Apparently, the young boy was riding his bike on the sidewalk with a friend when he was hit by an oncoming car. The child was brought to the hospital by paramedics, but injuries have not yet been released to the public.

I know the child was not suppose to be traveling on a main intersection, but it is also the responsibilty of the driver to be careful when pedestrians are crossing the street. I know it was an accident but it is still unfair to child and the family. Adults need to take responsibilty of our children and not disregard them as objects.

What ever happened to the bird flu epidemic? From previoulsy covered material, the disease is suppose to make it's way to the United States. Why is the topic not be covered anymore? What is the problem?

An old woman was killed this morning as she was taking out the trash in West Palm Beach.

The woman was struck by a vehicle and the driver left her for dead.
I am so tired of see and hearing about these types of accidents. People continue to do the most unethical thing everyday. Why didn’t he pull over and help the women. Stories like this really break my heart and I wish Americans can be more compassionate towards each other.

Media

Media representatives’ needs to do a better job in the type of news that are covered.

I just found it ironic the news coverage that took place when the World Trade Center blew up on September 11th.

It was no secret that terrorist were after the death of the president, but still they continued to report on his whereabouts.

What really blew my mind is when the president had his state of the union speech and they pointed out a divided nation.

I just feel there is a thin line between media and the news. I think certain things should not be pointed out or covered if it’s going to place the nation in danger.

For instance, we are American and a united front is what other countries should see versus they chaos that was aired all over the world. It’s amazing! What if Bush was killed because they were reporting where he was going?

Journalism wouldn’t be journalism if the whole truth is not reported.

There needs to be a median between news and the world.

Bush picks Fox’s Snow to be the press secretary of the United States.

I knew the White House was suppose be shaken up a bit, but I was not expecting such changes.

Okay, yeah he is a qualified candidate because he has a substantial amount of knowledge about the White House and the way it operates; considering he has been covering the beat for over 15 years. But is he a representative that the public can look up to as an important ambassador for the US?

His work throughout the years are influential, but let’s be honest, he doesn’t fit the ideal look of a US representative. He is too cool, calm and collective for my taste. Even with a suit on, I can help to think back on his career as a radio journalist.

Call me a conservative!

I do think he would be a great addition to the White House because of the ideas he can bring forth, but physically he lacks the look of a US representative.

What is going on?

Is it me or is everyone resigning from under the Bush administration. The press secretary of the United States resigned from his position today.

I hope they don’t think replacing a couple of people that work for the white house will improve the chances for Bush’s presidential rate to increase? I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not going to work.

Certain things were promised to the American people and those things have not yet been accomplished. We are disgusted and upset! It is way too late to try to make changes now.

As a young man goes on a rampage, two registered sex offenders are killed in Maine.

Apparently, Steven Marshall killed two men while they were at home with a pistol. Police say Marshall decided to kill these two men because of the crime they have committed against innocent people.

He was able to access their home address and the crime they were charged for by the state on an on-line website that provides a list of sex offenders that live around the area. Steven Marshall fled the scene and later killed himself once officers found his whereabouts.

I find this unfortunate that these men were killed. Yes, they committed a crime, but they served their time in prison. Most people don’t understand the uncontrollable impulse that causes these people act out these types of crimes. This type of information should not be accessible to the public because things like this may continue to happen.

Two duke lacrosse players were indicted and arrested for kidnapping and rapping an exotic dancer, but charges have been dropped.

The stripper made claims that she was locked inside a room, held down, and raped.

Many people were skeptical about this case because they feel the girl was after money.

But who says the wealthy can not commit heinous crimes? Remember the Menendez family? They were rich and killed both of their parents.

In this case, a crime was not committed. But the point I am trying to make is a crime has no social status or color.

According to CNN, our school system in the United States is suffering and is below average.

Duh, I could have told you that!!!!

The US is operating on a school system that was designed for the 1950’s. That is why many children in the America read and write on an 8th grade level.

Did anyone stop and think maybe we need to upgrade our system to match technological advances we accomplish everyday.

That is the problem now; society is consumed with trying to live everyday versus trying to help our children live. WE NEED TO STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT! The government needs to take a look at the way the system operates.

Though it would work huh?

A couple’s attempt to receive additional cash and gift cards to pay bills turned into a sprawl of lies when the couple admitted to lying to the public about giving birth to a set of sextuplets.

Apparently, the couple told the public they had six children and in turn received a van, clothing, washing machine, and funds to pay their bills. A real estate agent was working on getting the family a new home.

The couple went to their local police department and told them the truth. The couple will face felony charges if they collected over $500 dollars in cash from the public.

This story is a depiction of how America’s economy is suffering and most of all how morals have been lost in the mist of chaos.

What do you want me to say? It was wrong? No, I’m not. What I am going to say is….. maybe we need to look at ourselves and the country we reside and ask what can be done and what needs to be done to improved our circumstances so people wouldn’t have to go to the extreme to lie.

Incredible!

According to CNN, former President Bush decided to invest 2 million dollars into reconstructing his son’s childhood home. It is definitely his prerogative to rebuild his home that holds many memories, but I feel the airtime is frankly unnecessary.

His project will not benefit me in any way because I do not plan on visiting the site. How will it benefit citizens? What….pay a price to visit the home? COME ON!

There are too many things happening in the world right now to be wrapped up into a story that has no meaning. We are at war in Iraq; the rich is getting richer, education is slipping, no health insurance! The need to reconstruct the economy is something that should take up air time, not the reconstruction of the former president home.

Child Abandoned

A child was abandoned in Liberty City.

Witnesses say they saw a car pull over to the side of the road and let a little girl out. As the car rushed off, witnesses say the young child ran after the car screaming out “daddy.”

This story seems a bit suspicious to me. The child was well groomed and feed. This doesn’t seem like a case where the person tried to abandon their child. I think there were circumstances surrounding this case. Maybe they were trying to escape from something or maybe trying to save their daughter from wickedness. Who knows!

Weapon of Mass Destruction

Iran has launched its second high-speed underwater missile test.

The new missile will be capable of destroying large warships and submarines. The underwater missile has a speed of 223 miles per hour, which makes it three or four times faster than a torpedo.

The arrival of the new missile raises the concern over the power Iran will have over the Gulf. I think this raises concern for everyone that is not allies with Iran including the United States.

Knowing that Iran has such a powerful weapon that can be utilized during a war makes me feel uncomfortable. What the media needs to do is cover a story that informs the public what kind of weapons the US has to fight back the new missile to ensure the safety of Americans fighting at war.

The Return!

Jill Carroll, a freelance writer for the Christian Science Monitor, was finally released from captivity. Carol returned home to Boston after being held hostage for 3 months in Baghdad.

Apparently, kidnappers took Carol hostage because Iraqi women were being imprisoned.
They demanded the US army to release female prisoners for Carol’s discharge.

The government should have released the women/men as soon as they were notified of Carol’s disappearance. Why did it take the US army so long to respond? It just seems that the government is willing to let Americans die for a cause that no one desires!

It’s About Time Someone Did It!

A judge orders a mental health evaluation for Lionel Tate, which was the youngest person to be sentenced to jail for accidentally killing a child in a game of wrestling.

Tate has been imprisoned since the age of 12. I’m sure his mental capacity could not wrap itself around what was happening in his life. He killed a person by accident and then goes to prison. That is a lot for a child to go through in a short period of time.

To be honest, all he is familiar with is the prison walls he lived in during his adolescent stage where he was subject to other inmates that were there for more extreme crimes. I think he should be placed in a mental home where he can properly be treated for his mental problems.

According to CNN Headline News, South Carolina may be the second state in the US to penalize second-time sex offenders by the death penalty.

Who died and made it possible for “man” to decide when another human being is put to death or not? Am I the only person that sees something wrong this picture?

People that commit crimes should be punished, but not by the death penalty. If there were some type of rehab program that criminals can go through after they have been imprisoned, maybe they wouldn’t relapse.

We spend so much money on war and technology and forget about things that are necessary; like programs to help those that have been imprisoned to learn how to live amongst other citizens or programs to help senior citizens with medical assistance.

The death penalty is not the answer! There are other alternatives that can be used.

Immigration Laws….

The US Senate decided to make immigration laws a bit stricter.

I think this is a great idea for the senate to take part in because illegal immigrants need to either become a citizen or return to their native land. I understand that we live in the “land of the free” and everyone wants to be apart of it, but the way to be apart of it is by going through correct procedures to gain citizenship.

Think about it… What if I went to Switzerland or Spain? I would have to become a citizen to live and to work there and learn their language to survive. The same thing should apply to the US.

In many ways, this encourages illegal aliens to pursue a green card/citizenship or a gain a temporary work visa.

I’m not against immigrants, I just feel that people that come to America need to go through correct procedures to gain citizenship and learn the American language.

Disturbance

Recently, President Bush traveled to West Virginia to address the concerns that American citizens have towards the war in Iraq.

Call me politically engaged if you want to, but it is really interesting to me.

Unfortunately, one thing that takes away from the entire event is the crowd clapping continuously for no reason.

Every time the president makes a statement, the crowd begins to clap. Even if he said something that had no substance, the crowd would go wild. People that attend these televised events need to consider the people at home watching. It’s distracting! Due to the ongoing applauds; the speech is longer than it needs to be. People attending these speeches needs to know when it is appropriate to clap and when its not.

Charges were dropped against a teacher that had sex with a 14 year old boy.

Debra Lafave has been tried for a similar crime in a different district.

What is the world coming to?
What kind of message does this send out to predators?

The charges were dropped because she claimed she was bipolar. Individuals with bipolar do not go around having sex with underage children. Her lawyer said on Tuesday that his client is too pretty to go to jail. Yes she is pretty, but she committed a crime that should have been punishable by time spent in jail.

If a man were charged with the same crime, he would have been sentence to jail for a minimum of 7yrs. The court system is obviously corrupted. She should have gone to jail!

Clarity…Bush!

President Bush is trying to ensure the American public that Iraq will overcome its adversities and the country will be okay.

Here is my question…Why do we have troops in Iraq? How does he expect anyone to confide in him as our president when he continues to lie to the public? As an American citizen I am still unclear about the war because nothing has been made apparent to the public. I can’t blame the media because they are just as confused as I am. The cause of the war seems to change from year to year.

I’m not trying to judge him, all I am trying to say is he needs to be upfront with citizens and maybe he would have a chance in gaining trust from the American people.

Teachers

The Miami-Dade School Board District fired six teachers for phony credential scam.

I feel the media should have covered this story closer because this topic affects everyone.

Removing the teachers in the middle of the year may cause a disruption in the class. I feel they should have left the teachers in the classroom until the end of the academic school year and then remove them from the school system.
The article in which I received this information did not provide useful quotes from representatives from the Miami-Dade School Board. Including such influential statements from the school board’s representatives would have made the story flow efficiently. Also, quotes from the parents and students would of out the icing on the cake

Roe vs Wade.....for men

A 25 year-old man is suing his former girlfriend for placing him on child support.
This law suit may sound a bit funny to many, but it is a real case that is going to face a judge.

The young man feels that men do not have the same rights as a woman. I laugh at his opinion because men do have rights. He had the right to use contraception if he knew he was not ready for a child. If he wanted to be extreme then he should of have had a vasectomy.

How are men and women going to have the same the rights when it comes down to abortion, pregnancy, or adoption? It’s just the nature of life.

All she wants is support for his child in which he helped produced. He needs to suck it up and take responsibility for his actions.

I like the fact that the media interviewed and showed both sides of the spectrum. Not only did they talk to other men that feel the same way, but also interviewed specialist in this field.

Only in America can someone go to court for something like this.

In Tampa- 14 years-old Martin Lee Anderson was placed in a juvenile boot camp because he violated his probation. Under the supervision of a governmental agency, the young boy was killed by guards.

Initially, prosecutors believed the cause of death was a sickle trait the young boy carried.

Everyone knows if a person carries a sickle sell trait that doesn’t imply the sickle sell disease. Who are they trying to get over on? The issue at hand is a young boy was murder in a governmental facility by employed individuals that were supposed to be qualified and trained. What are they trying to hide? No one was arrested or charged for the crime! I thought surveillance cameras were help in situations like this one. I need some real investigative journalism to be done on this topic.

The media is not covering the story the way they should. This topic does not only hit home, but it touches base on the inequalities that exist in the United States of America today.

I watch several news stations trying to figure out what exactly is going on and got nothing. This type of information should and needs to be released to the public. On a trip to the museum, a little boy decided to place his gum on an expensive painting that is worth 1.5 million dollars.

The young boy was suspended from school and employees from the museum are trying to remove the gum without damaging the painting. I’m not sure this story is newsworthy enough to be on a national news channel.

Yes, the painting cost 1.5 million dollars, but I just feel there are a lot more stories that should be covered versus this topic. I guess creativity is the name of the game, and maybe this fall in the mix.

The lethal bird flu, H5N1 strain, has been confirmed in Niger, Africa. The disease has spread from Asia to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Due to the improvised region of Africa and the unsanitary way animals are kept, the spread of the disease was inevitable. Since Americans seem to always stick their noses where they don’t belong, maybe they should stick it real far into Africa. At least they would actually be saving a country from a disastrous event.

At this point, the spread if the disease is an endemic but it can easily transform itself to a pandemic. This topic needs to be covered closely because people around the world are dying from the deadly disease. The media needs to cover this topic vigorously versus the way the have been.

Let’s hope and pray experts can come up with a solution that keeps the disease from spreading from person to person.

What is President Bush really up to?

President Bush is giving the Arab nation full control of plants that are stationed throughout the United States of America.

The media is covering this topic quite well because they have given the public both sides of the spectrum. Not only are we hearing from public officials, but we are also hearing form ordinary people that have something to say.

I understand the president is trying to portray some kind of alliance with the Arab nation, but I fear that is not in the best interest for Americans. The Arabs are the same people that have designed camps to teach people how to construct explosives.

During this year’s hurricane season, a lot of disastrous events unraveled. One of many consisted of the tragedy that occurred in New Orleans. FEMA, a federal aid agency, provided the public with money for property damaged or lost. Unfortunately, their system was not able to detect those individual that were looking for a quick buck. FEMA ended up giving millions of dollars to individuals that didn’t need assistance of the federal government.

The story is extremely interesting because the topic affected many people. The reporter of the story did a great job filling in the blanks. As I was reading the article, questions sprang into my mind. Right after I asked the question, the answer was found right in the article. I think she did a great job of putting the most important information at the top of the article and the less important to the bottom. I really enjoy how she unfolded the story. FAU SHOOTING

Boca Raton- A student was shot by a police officer on the FAU campus. The story instantly swarmed the channel waves.

The reporting of the story from our local media was effective considering the amount of information that was presented to public. The only thing I would have liked to see additionally is comments from the family. Are they going to pursue a law suit against FAU or the FAU’s police station?

An ongoing coverage of the story should continue because it would give more information to the public. For example they can find out whether or not the student will return to the campus? Or what FAU’s police station plans to do with their existing police officers. Will they have to go through extra training for different situation like the one that occurred?

The vice-president accidentally shot a man with a bb gun. Okay…..

I understand what occurred on that day the first time it was covered on CNN. It was definitely news worthy because a public official was involved in a shooting that took place on a ranch. However, the media made the shooting more than what it was worth. They covered the same story for five consecutive days in a row with the same information presented at the first time it was aired. I feel if they’re going to cover a particular story for an extended number of days, then they need to present new information. I understand if they couldn’t get additional information instantly, but they should have waited until they receive further information and then present to the public. The Coverage of the story just became a bit to repetitive for me.

I need to express my feelings…

A seven or eight year old boy was struck by a van as he crossed the street. Apparently, the boy crossed the street without looking both ways. The person driving the truck will not be held accountable for the incidents.

There are a lot of things I want to say, but I will say this instead…

That little boy would not have lost his life if he had parents there to pick him up from school. Unfortunately, they were unable to do that because they were at work trying to make ends meet so they can survive.

If society wasn’t as corrupt as it is now, then people wouldn’t kill each other. If living expenses weren’t so high, then maybe more kids would be looked after by their parents.
I mean look at Columbine- where were their parents? At work!

I think the person driving the car should be charged because of negligence. Everyone knows when school gets. He should have known better to slow down.

The media gets on my nerves! I’m tired of watching the news and all I hear about is violence, corruption, and stories like this one.

A Spanish newspaper, “El Correo,” has launched a journalism project that will allow local residents to write for their newspaper. Articles from participants will be placed throughout the paper as well as a section is the newspaper entitled enlaCe.

I can understand that the newspaper is trying to reclaim contact with their readers, but it just seems a bit extreme. What happen to “real” journalism? Journalism is an art form, it needs to be treated as such.

It would be a great idea if citizens were only going to express their opinions on what is going on around them. They can easily place those in the opinion section of the newspaper. Instead they are going to mix the content from the public section with the rest of the newspaper. Did they ever stop think that maybe our readers want to read real news? COME ON!

The coverage on the president’s speech, “The State of the Union,” was all over the airwaves. The reporting on the speech portrayed a country in disarray and chaos.

From the time leading up to the speech till the time after, media programs lit up the airwaves with opinions from political experts. Instead of covering the speech (providing substance) they created frenzy. The media focused on whether or not the president’s speech would generate more of a positive outlook towards the president by the American people. They really didn't cover the reason of speech: to give an overview about the plans of the president has in store for America.

I watched the news and they barely mentioned at least one topic he covered in his speech versus the eight or nine he spoke about.

People that were unable to watch the speech turn to news stations for the story. The only thing that viewers recieved alot of was the media portraying a country that is not in unity. It made us as Americas look like a bunch sardines in a can. The icing on the cake for me was when they placed ratings about how American people feel on the screen. What bad karma!

The media has made such a great deal about Oprah Winfrey's controversy confession about James Frey's book entitled " A million pieces. The media has covered this story as though the world is coming to an end.

So what James Frey embellished a bit in his book. He said he purposely did this to hide the identities of those people in the book. He has the right do so. He has already made 3.5 million dollars. It's not like he going to give it back. If I were in his shoes, then oh well. I made my money.

I'm sure all nonfiction books don’t tell the exact truth.

Okay, what if he did tell the truth about his life? Would you buy the book then? No, because as Americans we enjoy to see and read drama!

The media should have been covering real news versus nonsense.

If they really wanted to cover this specific subject, then they should of placed the story underneath the entertainment segment. As a viewer, I was more concerned about what is happening in the Middle East right now rather than Oprah and Frey exchanging words.

A young girl was raped and killed in Savannah, Georgia by three young males in her area. The issue at hand is the girl is white and the boys are black….

The media has taken this story and turned it into a racial conflict. Instead of the media interviewing people that cared about the death of the young girl, they were concerned about placing interviews on TV that generated hate and violence to their viewers.

A public figure in the area was presented saying “they were obviously crack heads that needed money.” In turn, black activist said it was a racial comment because the media has set forth this concept amongst the people of the town.

I’m sure they had plenty of interviews from people that showed concern about the family versus the issues of the suspects being black. Unfortunately, the town has been split by the issue of race.

I think it’s disgusting how media is playing the field. It’s unfair to the people of the town, the family of the young girl, and the deceased young girl.

Parents Arrested

Two parents were arrested and convicted on charges for child neglect. Simpson and Suretha Wellington, the parents of a four year old child, left their son in their car as they entered a mortgage office in Homestead.

The vehicle, in which the child was in sleeping, was stolen by three juveniles. Apparently, the parents left their engine still running. The child was later returned to his parents by the suspects after the father pleaded with them to do so.

I could never understand these bizarre stories I hear in the media. Regardless if the engine was still running and the AC was on, no child should be left unattended by parents/guardians.

The story is close to my heart because I have several nieces and nephews. I would hate for something like that to happen to them, let alone a complete stranger. In the lead of the story, the part that is separated with a common should be explained in the second or third paragraph. Overall, the funnel technique in which the writer used was very effective. Way To Go!

Having a quote in the lead paragraph is usually not the way to go.

On the other hand, the quote in this article makes the reader want to continue reading because of what Vice President Dick Cheney said at the beginning….“I think you have to destroy them."

The quote made me want to continue reading the article because I was amazed by the comment our Vice President stated about terrorist. Amazing!

The article flowed nicely and the nut graph was informative. I wouldn’t have written it any other way. What happen to the journalistic approach to writing…the inverted paragraph? The most important information should be placed in the beginning of the story and gradually decrease from there.

The lead of the story is too long. The lead should focus on the big picture…a grandmother being indicated for killing her 3-year-old grandson. The lead is too wordy for my taste.

The nut graph should cover what charges are being brought by the Grand Jury against the grandmother.

It hurts my heart to hear about children begin abused.

I think she deserves to go to jail so she can sit and ponder on the inhumanity characteristic she posses.

To make the article more effective to readers, I would begin the article with the story emphasizing the issue Karline St. Louis and her family faces everyday. The story would be more humanistic if readers can relate.

Ending the article with a quote from her husbnad saying how he feels about the situation would jump out to readers and create a sense of warmth in their hearts.

Moving the paragraph that talks about how the TPS has not responded to the efforts of the Haitian community to the top would help the story flow better.

Starvation for a cause
Miami, Florida

A number of immigrants from Cuba are to be deported back to their native country because they did not reach Florida’s tip at the correct location.

A Cuban-American is starving himself in an attempt to save the Cuban immigrants.

His attempts have been very successful because he has gotten the attention of the White House. They are to review on this matter and will make a final decision on the behalf of those in captivity.

I’m not trying to be cruel or inconsiderate, but if those immigrants did not make it to the land at the designated areas, then why are they reviewing the matter. I think this is a closed subject that has no need to be considered.

I understand the law has not been reviewed for many years, but until the law has been through a thorough examination, then the law should be followed. Look at the many individuals that have been killed by the electric chair. When is there going to be a review on that law?

The man starving himself has made a great statement. But if it were up to me, he would starve himself to death because the rules are set forth by the government so people of the nation can follow.

Why do teens drink alcohol?

Teens consume large amounts of alcohol due to peer pressure and a lack of self worth.

Teens become anxious to belong to a crowd when they are unsure of their importance. They become overwhelmed by the pressure and turn to drinking.

Teens that are insecure within themselves would probably say “yes” if they were asked to drink because it would give them a sense of self worth.

There are very few teens that can stand alone without having the desire of fitting into a group. They will not allow the influence of others to overwhelm them.

Teen drinking depends solely upon a lack of self respect. Drinking in general corresponds with this message.

Though this type of service may be frowned upon by many people, this form of business is a legitimate venture.

Bachmann had 23 women actively working as an escort within his business.

Performing sexual acts for money (prostitution) with customers is within the discretion of the escort, not of the owner.

This is what the sergeant had to say, "We had to build up enough evidence to prove he knew that these girls were performing sex for money."

Yes, these women were having sex for money, but did Bachmann know? I guess they are assuming Bachmann knew his employees were having sexual encounters with their customers.

Following her arrest on charges of prostitution and possession of cocaine, the woman told detectives that when she was hired, Bachmann told her she would be having sex for money.”

Of course she would say that, she’s facing charges and going to jail. Alright, maybe she is telling the truth but where is the evidence.

Give me some real evidence. Show the contract that read “sexual activity is a must.” Show me the contract that says “let the customers make the first move.” I don’t want to hear evidence through hearsay.

It may seem as though I am all for escort services. But, let me make this clear…I’m not. I’m just trying to portray the other side of things.

The real question is whether he was registered as a legal entity within county or state?
